VETASSESS: Pause on New Applications in 7 Trade Occupations

VETASSESS has announced today a temporary suspension of new applications for the assessment of seven trade occupations.

Starting from September 25 2023, applications for the following occupations will be temporarily halted:

  1. Chef, ANZSCO Code 351311

  2. Cook, ANZSCO Code 351411

  3. Diesel Motor Mechanic, ANZSCO Code 321212

  4. Motor Mechanic (General), ANZSCO Code 321211

  5. Fitter (General), ANZSCO Code 323211

  6. Electrician (General), ANZSCO Code 341111

  7. Metal Machinist (First Class), ANZSCO Code 323214

This move is a cooperative decision between VETASSESS and Trades Recognition Australia (TRA) to manage the high volume of applications more effectively.

Those who have already submitted applications for assessment for any of these occupations, are not required to take any action. Their applications will be processed in due course.

Individuals who intend to apply for a skills assessment in one of the above occupations, can consider the following options:

  • Apply for a skills assessment with VETASSESS before 25 September 2023.

  • Apply for a skills assessment with another Registered Training Organisation (TRO) that is approved by TRA to assess their occupation.

  • Wait for the pause to end and then apply for a skills assessment with VETASSESS. It is currently unknown when VETASSESS will resume accepting new applications in the above mentioned occupations.

Candidates who are yet to apply for their skills assessments should carefully consider their circumstances and the solution which best suits their needs. It is likely that other RTOs are also dealing with high application numbers. The pause on VETASSESS' end might increase the pressure on these organisations.
